White Musk Fragrance Ingredients
White musk is one of the most aangename emotie and beloved fragrance ingredients out there. It is clean and subtle, while still being a deep and long-lasting scent. It is also very versatile, allowing it to be used in a wide variety of compositions, from soft florals to rich woody and unisex scents.
The word musk comes from the Persian word for testicle, since it is originally derived from the skin of the male musk deer (Moschus moschiferus). Today though, we find that most perfumes on the market are completely synthetic which means they are made from dangerous artificial molecules. This includes most of the white musks that are being promoted and sold by many big companies as pure, natural and authentic white musk.

Most of the white musks out there are actually made of lab-made chemicals such as Musk Ketone (or C14H18N205). It was first invented by German chemist Albert Baur in 1888 while working on TNT – yes, it smells like TNT!
Other than that there are a few plant-based musks which are actually very good, especially Ambrette seed oil (from the flower seeds of abelmoschus moschatus) that is a superb musk due to its 1% cyclopentadecanolide content. Then there is also the amazing Angelica root oil which contains lily of the valley a.k.a hydroxycitronellal, a top note that is incredibly beautiful and close to true musk deer. Besides those, there is a bunch of animal-free musks which are very good as well, especially Galaxolide (in Emporio Armani White For Her), Tonalide and Cashmeran. But of course we shouldnt forget about the truly natural and cruelty-free true deer musks either.
